We’re a boutique intellectual property law firm specialising in the protection of trade marks, designs, patents and copyright.

Our History

Bouwers was established in 2004 by a group of expert trade mark and patent attorneys with, at the time, combined expertise in intellectual property law of more than 70 years. Today, some 18 years later, we have vastly increased our experience, client base and offerings. We are currently members of various South African and international industry organizations, such as the International Trade Mark Association (INTA), Licensing Executives Society (LES), International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI), the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA), Marques as well as the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL).
Bouwers and its attorneys,  have over the last decade,  consistently been shortlisted and acknowledged for their expertise by leading global industry bodies and publications, such as Managing Intellectual Property, Chambers Global and World Trade Mark Review that recognise excellence in global legal practice. Bouwers and its attorneys have also received numerous awards, favourable ratings and recommendations.

Our Footprint

Although the firm’s primary market remains Southern Africa, it has established a highly efficient international network of agents and business associates through which it renders services to South African clients as well as to numerous international clients in more than 150 jurisdictions.

As a result, we have been highly successful in representing both local and international clients in litigious matters in jurisdictions such as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, European Union, Egypt, India, Lebanon, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, United States of America, and the United Kingdom, covering the full spectrum of intellectual property and related disputes.

 

We furthermore maintain and manage several trade mark, patent and technology portfolios on behalf of multi-national clients. In the aforementioned process, we utilize the highly specialized and purpose designed intellectual property management software created by Patrix AB.
